Gisborne Orange Orchard
One of Gisborne's largest orange orchards with 27 years of the vendor's input, it is now time to sell.
Total area 25.4122 hectares. Growing 10,500 Valencia trees, production is estimated to be 1,100 tonnes in December 2018. There is estimated to be a 30% increase in production over the next 10 years. The orchard is contracted to supply Frucor Suntory Limited for the next 15 years and renewable after that period.
The orchard also grows 1,940 tangelos which are exempt from the supply contract and are either sold to other processors or on the fresh fruit market. This area has been interplanted with Valencia oranges over the past 2 years.
Five years ago, irrigation from a bore was set up with a permit to take 60 cubes per day with a micro sprinklers system.
The soil type is Matawhero silt loam and is regarded as some of the most fertile on the Gisborne flats.
